About Mindfulness & Meditation
Mindfulness is basically a mental process which allows our attention to focus on paying attention in a specific way, to what is occurring in the present moment and without judgement, and has been popularised in recent decades by many, such as Jon Kabat-Zinn in the US. Learning mindfulness techniques, or being mindful, whilst also a form of meditation, is more simply an awareness, something you don't have to practice for twenty minutes at a time or strike a pose and chant to do it. We can all be mindful - anywhere, anytime and with anyone we like, and we can teach some very simple techniques to help individuals discover just how easy it is, as well as given them information to take away and continue practicing for themselves. Your session will be very much tailored to you, and can be as neutral or as spiritual as you wish for it to be.
Mindfulness is effective in helping us cope with various conditions such as anxiety, stress and depression; and, may also be used as a preventative strategy to halt the development of mental health problems. It is also a very effective way of relaxing, and taking control of your thoughts at any given time of the day or night.
Mindfulness and meditation practitioners do not profess to cure, diagnose or prescribe, and it should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice where needed. However, it can work in conjunction with conventional medicine and most general healthcare treatments. If you're not sure it's for you, the best way to find out is to give it a try.
Andrew has studied meditation and mindfulness with training from the Kadampa Buddhists, as well as through self-learning tools and tutorials, all which helped enormously with his own recovery from complex PTSD. Andrew continues to practice and expand his professional development in this field to broaden his knowledge, skills and expertise to be able to ensure the very best service possible.
